The Red Devils were interested in recruiting Erling Haaland before he signed a contract with Borussia Dortmund in 2020.
Borussia Dortmund president Hans-Joachim Watzke has stated that his club was forced to include a release clause in Erling Haaland’s contract in order to avoid losing out to Manchester United in the transfer market.
In 2019, Haaland established himself as one of the most intriguing players in international football while playing for Red Bull Salzburg, and there was a clamor for his signature ahead of the January 2020 transfer window. Man United were interested in signing the Norwegian phenomenon, particularly because his compatriot Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was in charge at Old Trafford at the time, had played a role in his spectacular rise at Molde FF.
Dortmund, on the other hand, beat the rest of the field to get Haaland for a mere £18million, and he has only grown in stature since arriving in Germany, scoring an incredible 82 goals in just 86 games. Now, once again, there is a bidding war for his services in the transfer market.
It’s widely assumed that the 21-year-£63 old’s million release clause will be activated this summer, putting him in position for a big move away from the club. Manchester City, the old club of his father, are the favourites, but Watzke has revealed how he was on the verge of moving to the red half of Manchester two and a half years earlier.
According to him, “We granted Erling Haaland a release clause… otherwise, he would have gone to Manchester United,” according to 19:09 Talk. Afterwards, he made a strong suggestion that the striker would be departing Signal Iduna Park this summer: “He has a decision to make, and he will make it at some point. But I’m confident that we’ll be able to locate the new Haaland. We are in desperate need of a new Haaland.”
‘We have hope again,’ say Man United fans following Matt Judge’s retirement.
As a result, United withdrew out of the deal because they refused to commit to the same buyout clause as well as a portion of future sales going to his agent Mino Raiola.
Interim United manager Ralf Rangnick has warned the club that in order to be a success, they must add young players of the caliber of Haaland: “Haaland is a young player, he is 21 or 22 years old, and he is one of those players I mentioned earlier.” he said. His development has, on the other hand, resulted in him becoming one of the most expensive strikers in the world.
I believe he is an example of a player who should be targeted in terms of identifying, attracting, and persuading guys who have the potential to become Manchester United players in the next two years.
For the simple fact that quite a few players have no contracts anymore and some other players are not available any longer, and some players may wish to gain more playing time and are already on loan, it is evident that the club and the squad require more players. It is undeniable that the team is in desperate need of new players.
The way I see it, I’ve already explained to you. In my opinion, it’s critical that Manchester United identify and then bring in scouts who can identify and bring in players with the right mentality, talent, physicality, pace, skills, you need the entire package.”
